Ashgrove's First Church
Speaker - Tom Blake

The original Grove Estate Methodist Church building was an important part of the developing suburb of Ashgrove from the 1890s and into the early twentieth century.
The building was moved to Ashgrove from Red Hill in 1891, where it had been a Wesleyan Methodist Church. Prior to this, the Ashgrove Methodist congregation had been meeting in a tent.
The second church on the site was opened in 1962. Its sloping A-frame roofline has been a striking feature of Ashgrove’s streetscape for over 60 years.
The original Ashgrove Methodist Church building became the hall at this time and was used for community activities until 2021 when both buildings were threatened with demolition.
